Thanks to the generous support of the Local Activation Fund Programme*, this experience is <strong>FREE!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Starting at the World War I memorial at the top of <strong>Stockade Hill,<\/strong> we\u2019ll enjoy stunning views across the Hauraki Gulf before exploring picturesque Howick Village and some of the beautiful residential streets that surround it.<\/p>\n<p>First settled by <strong>Ngai Tai ki Tamaki<\/strong>, the area later became home to one of <strong>Auckland\u2019s Fencible communities<\/strong> sent by the British to defend Auckland city from an invasion that never came.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Howick has developed into a <strong>thriving community<\/strong> with <strong>many artists and business owners<\/strong> calling this area home, <strong>some of whom we\u2019ll meet<\/strong> during our walk.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll finish the walk with a <strong>seated lunch<\/strong> at one of the local eateries in Howick Village. Thanks to the generous support of the <strong>Local Activation Fund Programme<\/strong>* this event is <strong>completely free for you and your friends to enjoy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This <strong>3-hr group tour<\/strong> is hosted by a professional local guide with a passion for creative communities and local history.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2018must do\u2019 experience in Auckland this June! Bicycles and e-bikes can be taken on Auckland trains. Search online for the best public transport routes.
